Beggars Banquet
The Beggars Banquet has been traditionally paired with Kurilpa Derby and runs once the sun goes down. The banquet is the largest community feast in Brisbane and takes over Boundary Street. Beggars Banquet invites "hosts" to register a table to dress, theme, prepare and serve all the food. Community hosts dress and theme their table providing a feast for up to 6-8 guests and beggars on the day. The day culminates with a night-time celebration featuring live music and carnivalesque style performances. Beggars are often volunteer, friends or festival goers!

Kurilpa Derby and Beggars Banquet have been a mainstay of the West End Community calendar for over a decade. We bring you, your imagination and our wonderfully wild and weird neighbourhood utilising the WECA tradition of bringing together the whole community, in its diverse and inclusive multi-coloured glory. Great conversations often happen around the dinner table. We love 4101!

How it works

  • Banquet hosts register to book a table.
  • We match Beggars to Banquet hosts.
  • We aim to supply a table and 8 chairs.
  • We contact Banqueteers to let them know they are included and where to meet at the event.
  • Banquet hosts are provided a table number.
  • We do encourage Banquet Hosts to be as self-sufficient as possible.
  • Banquet hosts must prepare food for 8 people and nominated number of Beggars.
  • Beggars MUST assist the Banquet Host by helping to clean and pack up the table.

Please note, in line with our community values we ask that you help make this event as minimal in waste. Please take your waste home and use re-usable plates etc where you can. We'll provide recycling station on the day. We encourage Banqueters to be as sustainable as possible and bring reusable crockery and cutlery rather than single use items which can end up in landfill. This is an alcohol free event.
